Aspiration for government jobs on http://citizensitjobs.com is mostly seen in lower middle class and middle class, while the upper class people damn care about getting a government job or a private one. Almost every city today takes pride in holding several government banks, universities and research firms that gives away eminent opportunities to both the fresher's and the experienced professionals.

Smart idea , though not for the long haul!!

Find it impressing how nice some of the students arrange their homes!

But i agree, there is not much room.

Thank you for sharing this information.

It must be so hard living in this small space.

I wish they have God's blessing to get nicer place to live.

Great info but where dose one find the bath room fittings?  I am glad you brought that up because I was wondering how that would work.

Thanks for sharing the idea, photos & where possibly acquire them.  I'm surrounded by a seaport coast & plan to look into whether or not there are scrap shipping containers available.  I love how they generally fit together like Legos.

Thanks, I find the container homes very good for me; if only I can get one for my back yard :)

This is a great idea. In Trinidad it is being used for stores and even offices.

it's a much better living space compared to some of those studio flats (aka bedsits) people rent in London!

well if you are living very economically, it makes sense for one or two people, but as a long time home, I don't think it makes it.

Now just make them all solar/wind powered and it will be perfect. This should be an inspiration across the world.

Jamaicans has been using these containers for years to open small community stores beauty salons, grocery and coos shops  and it is being used also for homes and it is a great idea

These Container structures are not very artistic but could be if Flat-Pack Building Blocks AKA QuaDror Blocks were used to strengthen the container structurers. QuaDror Blocks were created by Dror Bernshetrit and can be made from any material and form Buckminster Fuller type modern structures which are super strong.

Great Idea for constructing inexpensive affordable apartments. However, I would use more of the container such as the doors for privacy and have more modular items which snap together. And every apartment complex should allow 2 containers for stores, and 2 containers for a day care. Along with a combination post office, mail room, apartment mgr and security. And fashioned so there's a central playground, picnic area which is gated-protected and with cameras for tenants to watch their kids play. And communal gardens and groves of fruit trees and new desease resistant walnut tree groves

How are these ISO Container conversions such genius when one can simply purchase flatpack prefab homes made in China for less than $2000 each on alibaba.com and they can be shipped 8 homes on a flatbed truck. And in Mexico new Habiterra Brick homes can be built in 14 hours for $2500. Then there are Unfoldable cardboard houses for the homeless called carborigami. I would like to challenge anyone in Amsterdam to design a larger carborigami structure out of plastic so homeless people in the phillipines and elsewhere can survive the recent disasters. Or even develop a machine to make Habiterra Bricks which can simply be put together like lego blocks.

These ISO Containers are expensive when compared to other materials. If your seeking fast to build temporary housing then why don't you make larger carborigami designs which are foldable cardboard structures that become longer lasting via spraying on waterproofing materials. please check out spray on rubber material which is a spray-on polyurea coating and make it is possible to completely waterproof a cardboard box!

Excellent use of material - which could be shaped to any design.  I like!

When I worked on the maintenance team at Rover cars, we were using these containers for the different trades as workshops. They were fitted out with all required utilities such as electricity compressed air etc. This was about 25 years ago.

I do believe this is doable, what about sunlight and fresh air that all humans need to live a well balanced life?  This might be okay on a short term basis, but , I can not see it  as a  long term living arrangement unless there is plenty of recreation room nearby.

Whilst I think its a great opportunity for cheap housing, It would be nice if it doesn't have to "look" like cheap housing....

Let's impose a hypothetical equation, The Pev Shipping Company hit with Trade Embargo. Brazilian Consulate launches probe is the news after the lastest United Nations Summit Conference, this comes after the two entities agreed on a licensing & trademark agreement which comes months before the 2016 Brazil Olympics. Future details were not released in it's entirety yet BUREAUCRATIC red*tape has somehow surface linking this newly formed home based business established early 2007 into the likes of organized crime ? Fact : *( 22)* km from US Shores is International Waters, So, If we chose to sink our own Vessel you tell me *(WHT)* you FIND ! Those in this business rely on the BEST cargo/freight insurance carrierin the World , "  Lord Of London " please Hold. 866*703*7867. The idea is eco efficient but the question is, are they renting these as apartments? Who manages and owns the land of which the cargo homes will be on?

You can see why they've done this. Will cost next to nothing, easy to refurbish... and imagine the summer holidays on what they think is a "cruise", but its a cargo ship! As a student I would happily live in one providing the heating is managed well; it will either get really warm or really cold depending on the time of year. A very good idea!

This could be increasingly necessary as we face the Great Waves of Change in the world.

I recommend folks read the book "The Great Waves of Change" by Marshall Vian Summers - an important book regarding personal and collective preparation for tougher economic and environmental times.

As long as they aren't cold ugly grey concrete, I don't see what the visual problem is-also, get some artists to paint 'em, though that's not needed from what I'm seeing here. And if your local planning and building depts. are having issues, why, just do what every single rich person who has lived /moved into my lovely valley has done-don't ask, don't tell, just build whatever you want and put in pumps to suck what used to be streams and rivers for their stinking vineyards and use it to fill up huge ugly built up "ponds" and then just get a slap on the wrist fine, which of course is peanuts to them and they don't even have to tear them down, or stop draining the rivers dry. One nice comment-a lot of us got some satisfaction when a local person found what is called "midden" soil, which is from ancient peoples having lived there, and was able to stop the vineyard in it's tracks, the owner was such a jerk he just left the entire field so that now unfortunately we all have to look at rows of dead vines and their metal stakes, but still a tribute to the man who prevailed in the end, one small step.......

I convert containers and it's usually the local planning and zoning people with the NIMBY mentality who squash their use. My containers can be seen at http://www.leedcabins.com

@ANON ANON This cargo container concept is about RECYCLING an abundance of discarded containers. Not buying new resources.
