China is the only country on Earth with continuous tropical, subtropical, temperate, and boreal zones. From the spectacular lotus to the once thought extinct Metasequoia, and with more than 2,000 edible and 3,000 medicinal plants, China is a botanical paradise. In light of its rapid economic growth and diminishing natural habitats, China unveiled a national strategy for plant conservation in February 2008. The action plan was four years in the making and will attempt to protect the country’s diverse, fascinating, and rare flora.
